Our Story
"I have been on the sideline for too long. I am committing right now to doing something."
On August 16, 2017, Mr. Ed Powe spoke those words at an event sponsored by Together Frankfort. The event was held in response to the racial violence in Charlottesville, VA. After the forum Reverend Scott Rollins asked to have lunch with him. Soon the two of them were pulling together their friends from the African-American and white communities for an informal meeting. And that is how Focus on Race Relations: Frankfort was started.
In our first two years we worked to educate and initiate conversations about race and race relations through local candidate forums, a white bridge builders course, luncheons for elected officials and Kentucky State University administrators, a PicPac Farewell picnic, conversations among local churches, outreach to the local school systems, and through the process of finally lamenting and memorializing as a community the lynchings of John Maxey, Marshall Boston, Harry Johnson, Henry Washington, Jim Macklin, and Charles. Plans are already in the works for multiple projects going forward.

Our Mission
To increase awareness of race and race related issues in Frankfort and Franklin County, Kentucky to affect positive change within individuals, between individuals, and at institutions.
Our primary method of achieving our mission is to encourage open honest face to face conversations about race and race related issues.
FORR is not a radical civil rights organization. FORR does not support any political candidate or political party. FORR welcomes the invitation to hold open, honest, face to face conversations about race and race related issues with any political office holder; any political candidate; any church official; any educational official; any business person; any community organization or any individual.
